MACROS | 5 Things You Should Know

Macros. It’s a fun little word, but brings about some serious questions. I am here to clear some up and help you understand what they are, why we need them, and more!

Q: What Are Macros?

A: Macros of the 3 Major Macronutrients that the body needs to function properly.   Carbohydrates, Fats and Protein.

Q: So why do you need them? What do they do? 

A: Carbohydrates- provide the body with glucose which is converted to energy used to support bodily functions and physical activity

Proteins- Help your body repair cells and make new ones. Allows metabolic reactions to take place and coordinate the body’s functions while supporting lean muscle. Proteins also help maintain proper PH and fluid balance.

Fats- Essential to give your body energy and to support cell function. Fats help your body absorb micronutrients like Vitamins A and K and help produce hormones in the body. Consuming fats helps you feel more satiety

Q: Is Macros a “Fad Diet” 

A: No. Macros isn’t a “diet” at all. It is a lifestyle change. It is a way to create freedom in your food and still obtain the physic you want. If can fit your non-negotiables in your diet daily and build the rest of your meals around it without feeling “bad” or “off-track”. This does not mean you get to eat cheeseburgers all day and chase it with chocolate cake but it does mean you can design a style of eating that fuels your body effectively and you do not feel deprived.
